For many, the switch to Daylight Saving Time, on March 13, means losing an hour of sleep.

According to research by the National Sleep Foundation (NSF), the effect of not getting enough sleep (awake over 18 hours) is similar to having a blood alcohol content of .05 percent.

Police data, analyzed by Erie Insurance, revealed that a fatal crash is about five times more likely to be caused by a daydreaming driver than a driver using a phone. You can minimize daydream driving by:

  1. Keeping your eyes moving;
  2. Chewing on something;
  3. Taking different routes then you’re used to.
